We conduct three levels of the program depending on the requirements.
Our Schoolfish Program is held in a school classroom. Here the children learn the rules and regulations about caring for the marine environment and marine creatures. The program is a classroom instructional and “hands on“activity by using fish and crab models for measuring sizes.
The Junior Angler Workshop is a skills learning clinic. It can be conducted on any open space such as a school oval or park. South Moreton Branch supplies the fishing equipment. Children work in small groups, and are instructed in the various skills necessary to go fishing.
The Junior Angler Fishing Clinic is a practical program conducted over a half day at a suitable waterway or beach. The children apply all the learned skills of the Schoolfish and Workshop programs.

Clean up the Pin
PBC08_1833
The major environmental annual project of our branch is “Clean up the Pin” and we are now in our 15th year.
The Jumpinpin area is an important fish habitat for the Southern Moreton Bay, and hosts many marine creatures. This wonderful area attracting many interstate and local visitors enjoying the fishing, boating, day tripping and camping unfortunately add to the massive pollution and rubbish problem.
Our annual cleanup project, with the assistance and co-operation from, Department of Primary Industries and Fishing, Gold Coast City Council, Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM), fishing clubs, boating clubs, volunteers and members of the South Moreton Branch collect several tonnes of rubbish each year from the foreshores of the bay islands.
The EPA barge “Spoonbill” collects the bags and deposits them at the Jacobs Well boat ramp, where they are offloaded into the large industrial bins near the Jacobs Well boat ramp.

Take a Kid Fishing Day
Take a Kid Fishing Day is an annual event combined effort of Sunfish (Qld) and the Australian Fishing Tackle Industry .
At present we conduct the event on the Wynnum Jetty. If we had more volunteers the event could also be conducted at another venue as well as Wynnum which more children have the advantage of learning how to care for the fishery.
Children are registered to be included in the activities of the day, and to be eligible for the prizes and give aways. Sunfish members assist the kids with casting, bait, recognition of the types of fish and the regulation sizes. The purpose of the day is to promote fishing as a family fun day out.
